Description
What is WDR (Wide Dynamic Range)
WDR enables the camera to capture details simultaneously in very bright and very dark areas of the same scene.
Typical WDR techniques:
- Multi-Exposure HDR (MEHDR)_: Capture multiple exposures per frame (short + long) and fuse them.
- Dual-gain or Multi-gain_: Sensor reads each pixel at multiple gain levels and combines results.
- Local tone mapping_: Software/firmware processes high-dynamic-range raw data to produce viewable images.
WDR is essential when bright light sources (sunlight, headlights, reflections) and shadowed regions coexist.
